Foster Family Story

Three weeks in, I had nothing.

"The placement came on a Friday at 4pm. I had two hours to get ready for a four-year-old I'd never met. Commune had a bag at my door by 7pm — pajamas, a stuffed animal, pull-ups, crackers. I cried in the driveway. That bag was the whole neighborhood saying: we've got you."

Retired 3rd grade teacher, 34 years

"I taught half these kids. When I retired I thought I'd have to stop. Now I drop off coats and crayons every October. I know where they go. I've seen the kids wearing them."

"Tuesday nights we package whatever's left. Used to feel bad throwing it away. Now it feeds eight families and my cook stays an extra hour because he wants to. That changed something."

"Two years ago we were the ones getting the diapers. Our youngest was in the NICU and we couldn't afford the drive, let alone the supplies. Now we give $35 a month. It's not charity. It's memory."

Every child on this block is our child.

It takes $35 a month. It takes a bag of clothes you're not using. It takes telling one neighbor this exists. Start with any of those.
